Several major Queensland manufacturers are exhibiting for the first time at the coveted Australasian Processing and Packaging Expo (APPEX) 2024 (12-15 March) at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Queensland manufacturers on display include Weltrade Packaging who manufacture high-quality plastic packaging on the Gold Coast. They received a Queensland Government manufacturing grant of more than $56,000 to help purchase and install blow moulding equipment and a scanner, which allowed them to create 4 additional jobs.

Also among the exhibitors are the Loganholme-based vacuum packaging manufacturer, VACPAC, Mansfield-based biodegradable and sustainable packaging manufacturer, Moda and Brisbane-based industrial chain and power transmission equipment manufacturer, Tynic Automation. The Queensland Government will also be exhibiting to discuss the benefits of manufacturing in Queensland, as well as Government support available for manufacturing businesses.

A highlight of the four-day expo is the Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association (APPMA) 2024 Awards of Excellence on 13 March. The awards are a prestigious national program that recognise innovation, leadership and best practice in the Australian packaging and processing sector.

The Queensland Government is especially proud to sponsor the Sustainability Excellence Award category with Assistant Minister Saunders presenting the award. The award recognises initiatives with a commitment to environmentally sustainable business practices.

The Queensland Government is the first Government in Australia to have a Women in Manufacturing Strategy and are proud to also be supporting the Women in Packaging and Processing networking event at this year’s APPEX.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Manufacturing, Glenn Butcher:

“We made a commitment in the Queensland Advanced Manufacturing Roadmap and Action Plan to promote Queensland’s outstanding manufacturers to interstate and international markets and exhibiting at APPEX is part of that commitment.

“We’re excited to connect with the leading innovators in this sector, identifying the latest technology and processes that can be introduced to the factory floor and further streamline a business.

“We are also proud to sponsor the Women in Packaging and Processing networking event because we know that these opportunities lead to great connections, including leadership, mentorship and peer support opportunities, as well as potential business opportunities.

“What I would really love is the chance to host this event in Queensland in the future. We know Queensland is the place to be for manufacturers and it would be fantastic to host this event in the sunshine state and showcase to the rest of the nation just how fantastic Queensland manufacturing is.”

Quotes attributable to Assistant Minister for Train Manufacturing, Regional Development and Jobs, Bruce Saunders:

“We know that manufacturing is the backbone of the Queensland economy, contributing $20 billion a year to our economy and supporting local regional communities through jobs and business growth.

“So, it is fantastic to showcase our Queensland manufacturers on this national stage to demonstrate the capabilities that exist in the Queensland manufacturing sector.

“I am looking forward to presenting the Sustainability Excellence Awards, which aligns strongly with our recently announced Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Grant, a program that offers financial assistance to manufacturers who want to move to more sustainable practices in the factory while lowering their energy costs.”
