Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski has been named Queensland Acting Police Commissioner.
The Deputy Commissioner is well known to Queenslanders for his role leading the police response to the COVID pandemic.
Mr Gollschewski led the police operations that included police overseeing hotel quarantine, airport security and border security on our roads.
Police played an instrumental role in keeping the community safe and helping to support the strong economic recovery Queensland has since experienced.
Mr Gollschewski is Queensland’s most experienced Deputy Commissioner, with over a decade in the role, and more than 40 years experience as a police officer.
Mr Gollschewski will act as Police Commissioner while an appropriate full merit selection process is undertaken to appoint a new, permanent Police Commissioner.
The selection panel will consist of the Public Service Commissioner, David Mackie, Crime and Corruption Commission Chair, Bruce Barbour, Integrity Commissioner Linda Waugh, and Tasmanian Police Commissioner, Donna Adams.
It is expected that an invitation for expressions of interest in the Police Commissioner’s role will open next week.
