Minister for Tourism and Sport
The Honourable Michael Healy
- Two funding programs have opened, aimed at improving participation in sport and active recreation, and nurturing talent.
- The Active Industry Project Fund Super Round of more than $5 million will assist organisations with participation and talent pathways.
- The Active Clubs Round 4 of more than $4.3 million will support local sport and recreation organisations to encourage volunteers and increase physical activity opportunities.
The Miles Government is providing $9.3 million in funding for eligible sport and recreation organisations to assist with participation as well as to nurture talent.
The Active Industry Project Fund Super Round of more than $5 million is designed to assist state level organisations with two categories of projects; Participation and Talent Pathways.
Funding of $20,000 to $100,000 will be available in the Super Round and organisations will have the flexibility to apply for one or both categories.
Spread over two financial years, the Super Round will provide greater certainty to the sport and recreation industry and allow funding recipients more time to plan and deliver quality outcomes.
Round 4 of the Active Clubs program will see more than $4.3 million available for not-for-profit sport and active recreation organisations.
Grants of $2,500 will help to support training volunteers, as well as assisting with the purchase of on-field and off-field equipment and resources.
Round 3 of the program in 2023 supported 2,116 projects across Queensland.
Active Clubs and the Active Industry Project Fund are both initiatives under the Queensland Government’s 10-year Activate! Queensland 2019–2029 strategy to enrich the Queensland way of life through physical activity.
Quotes attributable to Sport Minister Michael Healy:
“The Miles Government is committed to seeing more Queenslanders be more active more often.
“We know how important it is that our clubs and sport and recreation organisations are supported to help build participation numbers in their communities.
“The $5 million Active Industry Project Fund Super Round will give organisations a hand in encouraging more participants, as well as nurturing and supporting talent across the state.
“The Super Round is a result of the Miles Government listening to industry, who told us combining two funding rounds into one, would allow them better forward planning for projects.
“The Active Clubs program is also a proven winner, and with more than $4.3 million available in Round 4, the benefits will be felt throughout our communities.
“Last year, Round 3 of the program supported over 2,100 projects, including in some of our most remote communities such as Thursday Island, Weipa, Normanton and Karumba.
“I urge every eligible not-for-profit club or large organisation to apply for funding through these two programs and help keep Queensland communities active and healthy.”
Quotes attributable to Peninsula Padres Baseball Club Operations Manager Dan Wilson:
“We’ve put Active Clubs funding towards playing equipment like bats, catching gloves and balls, as well as training aids such as tees and safety screens.
“The program means a great deal as it brings costs down for our members, particularly if they are new to the sport.
“It’s such an easy grant to apply for and has helped attract members, getting more of the community active and healthy.”
Quotes attributable to Ashgrove Cricket Club Committee Member Matthew Wheelahan:
“We had floods come through and we did lose a lot, so it’s really good to see the club get back on its feet and get the juniors through.
“All of our funding has gone to getting equipment for the kids so they can get their balls and bats and stumps out and have a really good crack at it.
“We’d like to thank the Queensland Government for supporting the club as we build our junior program.”
