Coomera Connector Stage 1 South design released for community feedback

The design of the southern section of the Coomera Connector, or ‘Second M1’, is progressing, with the community encouraged to provide feedback during the next vital phase of the project.

The Coomera Connector is South East Queensland’s largest road infrastructure project, with the Stage 1 package of works (North, Central and South) featuring 16 kilometres of new motorway between Coomera and Nerang.

Stage 1 South connects from the Smith Street Motorway to a new interchange at Southport-Nerang Road, before crossing the Nerang River and finishing at a new intersection with Nerang-Broadbeach Road.

Based on previous community feedback, design changes have been made at the southern end of Nerang.

The Australian and Queensland governments have committed $2.16 billion on a 50:50 basis to plan and build Coomera Connector Stage 1 between Coomera and Nerang.

The design for Stage 1 South is being undertaken by the BG&E Pty Ltd and HDR Pty Ltd Joint Venture (BHJV).

An early works package south of Nerang River will commence in the new year, with major construction expected to start in late 2024.

The community is invited to provide feedback as part of the design phase until 17 December 2023.
