The Honourable Shannon Fentiman
- Tenders are now open for the $40 million Hervey Bay Hospital expansion
- This expansion will bring a much-needed boost to the region's healthcare infrastructure, providing an additional 35 patient beds, with 10 of them dedicated to intensive care
- The expansion utilises an empty “shell space” which was developed in 2019 to allow for future growth
- The expansion is in addition to the Fraser Coast Mental Health Project, also worth almost $40 million
The $40 million Hervey Bay Hospital expansion project has reached a significant milestone, with tenders now open.
This expansion is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $9.78 billion Health Big Build, delivering three new hospitals, eleven hospital expansions, and over 3,300 new beds to communities across Queensland.
This expansion will deliver another health boost to the region, providing an additional 35 patient beds.
Key features of the Hervey Bay Hospital Expansion Project include:
- A new 25-bed medical inpatient unit, including four critical care unit beds.
- A new 10-bed intensive care unit (ICU) to replace the existing seven-bed ICU.
- The construction of a rooftop helipad to replace the existing at-grade helipad.
The project involves the fitting out of vacant "shell space" on the second level of the ED building to accommodate the new 25-bed medical inpatient unit, the 10-bed ICU, and shared staff areas.
This development will not only enhance the capacity of the hospital but also improve access to critical medical services for residents and visitors alike.
The expansion builds upon the successful completion of the $44.66 million Hervey Bay Hospital Emergency Department (ED) project in 2019, which substantially increased the hospital's emergency capacity.
The Health Big Build is the largest investment in health infrastructure in Queensland’s history, and is delivering world-class healthcare to Queenslanders closer to home.
