Minister for Transport and Main Roads and Minister for Digital Services
The Honourable Mark Bailey
- The Bribie Island and Surrounds Transport and Mobility Study has commenced.
- The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) study will investigate current and future transport issues and opportunities.
- Now is the time for members of the community to provide feedback and have their say on future public transport in the area.
The Queensland Government is undertaking the Bribie Island and Surrounds Transport and Mobility Study to plan for the area’s future transport needs.
Bribie Island and the surrounding mainland communities are forecast to grow over the next 20 years, with more people calling the area home.
The planning study focuses on the communities of Bribie Island, Donnybrook, Toorbul, Meldale, Ningi, Sandstone Point, Godwin Beach and Beachmere.
It will also consider how these communities connect and travel beyond the study area, including towards the Sunshine Coast, Caboolture, Redcliffe and greater Brisbane.
All modes of transport, including walking, cycling, public transport and driving, will be taken into account as part of the study.
The planning study includes extensive community consultation, which is aimed at gaining a better understanding of priority transport issues and opportunities.
Public consultation begins this week and runs until Sunday 17 December 2023.
Residents and visitors can have their say online by completing a survey or leaving comments on our mapping tool, or in person by visiting a community drop-in session.
To have your say, and for more information on the consultation, visit www.tmr.qld.gov.au/BribieIslandTransportandMobilityStudy or contact TMR at Bribie.Island.Mobility.Study@tmr.qld.gov.au.
Quotes attributable to the Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey:
"More than 37,000 people currently live in the study area, and that number is forecast to grow over the coming years, which will increase transport demand.
"Population growth in adjacent centres is also likely to impact transport demand, with more visitors likely to frequent the area’s cultural and natural attractions.
“With a high proportion of residents aged 65 years or older, it is important to support appropriate transport access to services both within and outside the area.
“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to planning safe, efficient and sustainable transport systems for communities across Queensland.
“That’s why we are investing $400,000 to undertake the Bribie Island and Surrounds Transport and Mobility Study.”
Quotes attributable to Ali King MP, State Member for Pumicestone:
“When it comes to public transport, our Pumicestone communities deserve the best possible services.
“Whether it’s more flexible bus services on Bribie or more regular connections to Toorbul, this is your chance to tell TMR what you need to get around our area.
“To make sure we can get transport that works for us, please have your say and ask your family, friends and neighbours to do the same.”
