  • Around 80,000 Queensland families to now benefit from cost-of-living initiative
  • More cashback of up to $1,000 to buy and install energy-efficient appliances
  • Program boosted to $44 million following big demand from Queensland households

More and more Queensland families will save hundreds of dollars buying energy-efficient electrical appliances with an extension of a key Palaszczuk Government bill busting cost-of-living initiative.

The energy efficient appliance cashback program which was originally budgeted at $22 million and estimated to benefit about 40,000 Queensland families will now be doubled.

This landmark initiative comes in addition to the Palaszczuk Government’s electricity bill rebates of $550 for every household and $1,072 for Queensland senior and concession card holders.

The Climate Smart Energy Savers Program is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s push to ease cost of living pressures for Queensland families by providing discounts on a range of eligible appliances.

That includes such appliances as air conditioners, solar and heat pump hot water systems, washing machines, dish washers, dryers and refrigerators.

It’s estimated that making the change from two to four star appliances will save households hundreds on their electricity bills each year, in addition to the government rebates.

The initial $22 million cashback offer was flooded with over 10,000 applications already received and the government is rapidly working through the approvals process.

The average cash-back provided is about $420.

Low-income households are eligible to claim the most on appliances but all Queenslanders are encouraged to access the program.

Quotes attributable to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk:

“With so many families applying for the appliance rebate, we wanted to make sure more Queenslanders have a chance to receive this cashback offer.

“We recognise that families are facing cost of living pressures so we already have the biggest electricity bill support package in the country which comes on top of this cashback.

“My government is investing a record $8.2 billion in concessions just this financial year to help ease cost of living pressure and to help Queenslanders.”

Quotes attributable to Energy Minister Mick de Brenni:

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to lowering the cost of bills, and ensuring climate action doesn’t leave vulnerable Queenslanders behind.

“We anticipate the additional $22 million in funding for the Climate Smart Energy Savers Program will see around 40,000 extra Queensland households now able to claim cash back on their energy efficient appliances.

“This means lower electricity bills and real financial help at a time we know some Queenslanders are doing it tough.”
