JOINT STATEMENT

Acting Premier and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games
The Honourable Dr Steven Miles

Acting Minister for Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen and Minister for Public Works and Procurement
The Honourable Mark Bailey

  • Around 40,000 households eligible to benefit from key cost-of-living measure
  • Rebates of between $300 and $1000 on offer to buy and install energy-efficient appliances
  • $22 million program includes rebates for washing machines, fridges, dryers, dishwashers, air-conditioners and hot water systems

As part of the Palaszczuk Government’s push to ease cost-of-living pressures and bust bills for Queensland households, a new cash-back program encouraging Queenslanders to purchase energy-efficient appliances will officially open today.

The new Climate Smart Energy Savers program offers between $300 and $1000 cash back on a range of eligible energy-efficient appliances.

Funding for the $22 million program is available for Queenslanders who are looking to save money on the purchase of eligible appliances, however funding is limited and is granted on a first come, first serve basis until funds are exhausted.

Low-income earners who earn a taxable income of $66,667 or less are able to claim the most, but all Queenslanders will be eligible to access cost-of-living support on selected appliances.

Making the switch from 2 to 4 star appliances could save Queensland households hundreds to thousands of dollars in energy costs each year, and reduce Queensland’s CO2 emissions by thousands of tonnes a year.

Switching your washing machine from a 2 star to a 4 star could save households around $117 on their bills each year, while switching to a heat pump hot water system could save more than $1100 a year.

The new cash back program follows significant cost of living measures put in place by the Palaszczuk Government, including electricity bill rebates of $550 for all households and up to $1072 for seniors and concession card holders.

Quotes attributable to Acting Premier Steven Miles:

“We’re proud to support Queenslanders with this additional cost of living relief package.

“We’re investing a record $8.2 billion in concessions this financial year to help ease cost of living pressures, and help Queenslanders.

“This includes the biggest electricity bill support package in the nation which comes on top of these rebates.”

Quotes attributable to the Acting Minister for Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen, Mark Bailey:

“We know Queenslanders are feeling the financial pinch, and we’re proud to deliver this additional cash-back measure on energy efficient appliances.

“Not only does the Climate Smart Energy Savers program provide financial help when making an energy-efficient purchase, but Queensland households can expect to see significant savings off their electricity bills for years to come.

“Funds are limited, so it’s important to lodge your receipt as soon as possible after making a purchase, and to check with your retailer when at the checkout to make sure there’s still funding available.

“This $22 million program comes on top of our nation-leading energy rebates, which mean all standard Queensland households will see $550 off their electricity bills, while vulnerable households, including seniors and concession card holders, can expect savings of $1,072.”
