The Honourable Shannon Fentiman
- The procurement process is now open for the new satellite renal dialysis unit at Yeppoon’s Capricorn Coast Hospital.
- The $10.37 million investment by the Palaszczuk Government will see eight new treatment spaces built.
- Since 2019, the Palaszczuk Government has invested more than $66 million to support better access to kidney healthcare services, particularly in regional areas.
Capricorn Coast Hospital’s new satellite renal dialysis unit is a step closer to reality with a tender process now underway for the $10.37 million facility.
Underlining the Palaszczuk Government’s investment in delivering health services closer to home, the eight-chair unit will ensure kidney patients from Yeppoon and surrounds will no longer need to travel to Rockhampton Hospital for treatment.
Following the tender process, the project will enter the design and construction phase with a projected completion of late 2024.
Thirty-two renal dialysis treatment spaces have already opened in regional, rural and remote communities since 2020, in addition to those delivered as part of a Palaszczuk Government commitment made at the 2020 election.
Quotes attributable to the Minister for Health, Mental Health, and Ambulance Services Shannon Fentiman:
“The Palaszczuk Government continues to deliver on our key election commitments to ensure we are providing infrastructure to support world-class health care delivery, no matter where people live.
“We know dialysis saves lives, so it is important people living in regional communities can access this essential treatment close to home.
“The project at Capricorn Coast Hospital is future-proofing Yeppoon’s health care needs, delivering important services and infrastructure for people in the Central Queensland region.
“Capricorn Coast locals who have kidney disease and require regular dialysis currently travel to Rockhampton Hospital’s renal dialysis unit for care, so the new eight-chair unit at Yeppoon will play a vital role in easing pressure in Rockhampton.
“This project is another example of our commitment to providing Queenslanders with health care services where and when they need them."
Quotes attributable to Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga:
“This is great news for dialysis patients in the region, who are required to travel up to three times a week to Rockhampton for life-saving renal services.
“As the Assistant Minister for Health and the Member for Keppel, the health and wellbeing of people in the Yeppoon region is a priority for me.
“It’s great to know that soon people will have increased and improved access to the health care they need, closer to home.
