    • Planning study to address current safety and structural concerns

Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is undertaking community consultation to inform planning for the upgrade of the Gympie Arterial Road and Murphy Road intersection, including Downfall Creek Bridge.

The upgrade aims to reduce congestion at the intersection, improve traffic flow and safety along this section of Gympie Arterial Road and improve the reliability of the transport network.

The planning study will identify potential bridge and road upgrades that address current safety and structural concerns, and future-proof the carriageway for the ever-increasing demands from public transport, general traffic and active transport at this location.

Community consultation commences this week and runs to Sunday 20 August 2023.

Quotes attributable to the Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey:

"About 67,000 vehicles travel through this intersection every day and it's important for the community to have their say about how we can address current and future transport needs, including active and public transport.

"The proposed upgrade will not only improve the flood resilience and reliability of the road network, but also address the key issues of traffic congestion and safety, and provide for active and public transport users.

"Feedback on the proposed new bridge structures and intersection upgrade will be used in the business case phase, which is expected to be completed in mid-2024."

Quotes attributable to Member for Aspley, Bart Mellish

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to delivering safer roads and improving traffic flow.

“That’s why we are investing so significantly in transport infrastructure and public transport.

“We all know how busy this intersection is, so I encourage everyone in the community to have their say on this planning study and to help improve transport outcomes for everyone,” he said.
