More than 1,800 talented state school students have wowed audiences at the 2023 production of Creative Generation – State Schools Onstage (CGEN).

Held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, this year’s cast was the largest yet, with students performing to thrilled audiences from Thursday 13 July to Saturday 15 July 2023.

Marking the 19th annual showcase, CGEN 2023 features Queensland state school students from right across the state.

The theme for this year’s production, “Out There, In Here, We’re All Connected”, reminds us of our common humanity and the role creativity and the arts can play in connecting us and creating community.

In the six-months prior to performing, the cast participates in a program to develop their performance skills, enhance their technical expertise, work with professional artists, and form lasting friendships.

This hard work culminates in a performance that has taken audiences on a colourful and entertaining journey, exploring what makes us human, with a focus on health, wellbeing, education, friendship, family, diversity and inclusion.

Quotes attributable to Education Minister Grace Grace:

“I am blown away by the standard of this year’s production. We have truly seen some stars in the making on stage.

“As Queensland’s largest annual youth performing arts program, CGEN gives young artists of all abilities the chance to develop their skills and work with industry professionals.

“CGEN brings together Kindy to Year 12 students of all abilities and backgrounds from across Queensland and it is incredible to see such a diverse cast working together so well.

“Thank you to everyone involved in bringing CGEN to life each year, including the teachers, parents, and families who support and encourage every member of the cast on their CGEN journey.”
