The Honourable Leanne Linard
- Sixty-eight community groups and not-for-profit organisations will share in more than $3.4 million as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s Community Sustainability Action grant program
- Grants of up to $100,000 were available to assist community groups to purchase and install renewable energy systems, such as solar panels and batteries, and energy efficient replacement items, including lighting, whitegoods and hot water systems
Sixty-eight community groups and organisations from across Queensland will receive a funding boost from the Palaszczuk Government to help them take climate action.
The groups will share in more than $3.4 million in funding through the Palaszczuk Government’s Community Sustainability Action grant program for projects that help them to reduce emissions and energy costs and build local resilience.
This latest round of funding is providing grants of up to $100,000 that will assist community groups to purchase and install renewable energy systems, such as solar panels and batteries, and energy efficient replacement items, including lighting, whitegoods, and hot water systems.
One of this year’s successful recipients is the Lions Club of Malanda, which will receive $81,762 to purchase and install a solar system and inverter for 10 housing units managed by the Club. The grant will also be used to upgrade a switchboard and whitegoods to further reduce their carbon emissions and reduce energy costs.
Quotes attributable to the Minister for Environment and the Great Barrier Reef, Leanne Linard:
“The overwhelming interest shown by community groups in this grant round points to the priority Queenslanders now place on taking climate change action.
“Our community groups do such incredible work on the ground and it’s great to see funding go towards projects that can help them reduce their costs as well as their emissions.
“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to taking action on climate change and increasing renewable energy use in our state to 80 per cent by 2035.
“Our $62 billion energy and jobs plan will deliver cheaper, cleaner power as we move to net zero emissions, and we are proud to support community groups that want to realise that future.”
Quotes attributable to Mr Graham King, Project Coordinator, Lions Club of Malanda:
"Malanda Lions are very excited to be able to participate in this project. Without the assistance of this grant we would not be able to afford to provide the 10 aged-pensioners residing in our units with affordable solar power.
“With power prices on the rise, the residents living in the Malanda Lions units will be able to take advantage of the cost savings that come with solar-generated power.
“The residents of the Malanda Lions units on the Atherton Tablelands are proud to be using the power of nature through solar generated power”.
