Nominate an inspiring Queenslander for the 2024 Australian of the Year Awards

  • Nominations open tomorrow for the 2024 Australian of the Year Awards.
  • The awards recognise the achievements and contributions of exceptional Australians who are making a positive difference in their communities.
  • Nominations will open across four categories – Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Local Hero – until 31 July 2023.

The Australian of the Year Awards celebrate and recognise those in our community who inspire us through their outstanding achievements and positive impact on everyday life.  

Queenslander’s show courage, sacrifice, and kindness, and continually make a difference by empowering and enriching others and creating change for the better.

Now is the time to recognise and celebrate their achievements by nominating individuals across the four award categories:

  • Australian of the Year
  • Senior Australian of the Year (65 years of age or over)
  • Young Australian of the Year (16 years of age to 30 years of age)
  • Australia’s Local Hero.

The Queensland recipients of the 2024 Australian of the Year Awards will be announced in November 2023. These recipients will then represent our state at the national awards held on the eve of Australia Day 2024 in Canberra.

2023 Queensland Australian of the Year were:

  • 2023 Queensland Australian of the Year - William Barton, First Nations composer, educator, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, didgeridoo player and renowned classical composer
  • 2023 Queensland Senior Australian of the Year – Claude Harvey OAM, Child protection campaigner and Bravehearts fundraiser
  • 2023 Queensland Young Australian of the Year – Talei Elu, community advocate
  • 2023 Queensland Local Hero – Melissa Redsell, Founder of A Brave Life.
