  • Queensland organisations can apply for a share in more than $800,000 to promote inclusivity and unity
  • Applications close 13 July
  • In 2023, the program funded more than 100 events and festivals

Queensland organisations keen to deliver multicultural festivals and events across the state in 2024 are being encouraged to apply for a share in more than $800,000 through the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program.

The funding helps organisations promote their culture, while ensuring all Queenslanders have an opportunity to immerse themselves in the state’s rich multicultural identity.

The grants are part of the Palaszczuk Government’s strategy to put the principles of the Multicultural Queensland Charter into action and promote Queensland as a place of welcome and offering opportunity for everyone.

In 2023, the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program funded more than 100 festivals and events, including the Brisbane Fiesta Latina and the Gladstone Region Multicultural Festival Day.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Multicultural Affairs Leanne Linard:

“Multicultural festivals and cultural events are a great way to bring all Queenslanders together to celebrate and showcase our rich cultural diversity.

“From the Torres Strait to the Gold Coast, we want to see all Queenslanders out supporting different cultures and getting involved wherever they can.

“Queensland is one of the most culturally and religiously diverse places in the world.

“Along with our First Nation’s Peoples, we speak hundreds of different languages, identify with a diverse range of religious beliefs and traditions, and come from many different countries and territories.

“Our Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program funding will allow organisations to not just show off what they most cherish about their culture, but it will also allow them to empower their communities to build better social and economic inclusion – and that’s exactly what our government wants to see.

“Through the program, we have proudly supported some of our most-cherished festivals and events – like the Luminous Lantern Parade, which attracts tens of thousands of Queenslanders.

“I’m always impressed by the applications we receive and hope to keep seeing Queenslanders step up to bring all our wonderful communities together.”
