  • Suncorp Stadium celebrates 20 years of delivering great Queensland events
  • Announces new upcoming concerts for Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe
  • Maroons can clinch back-to-back Origin series on 21st of June at Suncorp
  • FIFA Women’s World Cup matches coming to Suncorp in July

Today Suncorp Stadium celebrates its 20th anniversary with another concert announcement to mark the milestone.

Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe will play at Suncorp Stadium this November 8th as part of their World Tour adding to the 33 concerts the venue has already hosted since it reopened in 2003.

The double act will join the likes of Elton John, Paul McCartney, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift as some of the world-famous musicians who have played at the venue.

While international acts are always a huge drawcard, the local sporting teams who call Suncorp Stadium their home make up the bulk of attendees year to year.

Since its opening in 2003, the Stadiums Queensland venue has hosted:

  • 343 rugby league games for a total of 10.7 million patrons
  • 219 soccer games for a total of 3.1 million patrons
  • 177 rugby union games for a total of 4.5 million patrons
  • 33 concerts for a total of 1.3 million patrons.

It has also hosted some record-breaking moments with more than 7000 musicians ascending on the Stadium in 2013 to break the world record for the biggest orchestra.

The Broncos hold the honour of the greatest number of games (128 for a total of 4.2 million patrons) with the newest tenants the Dolphins having already amassed 156,000 patrons over five games.

2023 has already had several major events with over 173,000 patrons witnessing Ed Sheeran over three nights with a ground attendance record of 58,439 set during the Saturday night show.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Sport Stirling Hinchliffe:

“For Suncorp to have more than 20 million fans file through the gates over those 20 years, is a true testament to the stadiums ability to continually attract the biggest acts and events from around the globe.

“The Cauldron has become a fortress for Broncos, Reds, Roar and now Dolphins fans, who get to cheer on their teams at the best rectangular stadium in the world.

“And the show goes on - with this incredible theatre for sport set to host several FIFA Women’s World Cup matches next month, and of course more immediately we hope it will again be a field of dreams for the Maroons as they look to clinch another Origin series on the 21st of June.”

Quotes attributable to Stadiums Queensland Chief Executive Todd Harris

“One of the great features of Suncorp Stadium is its multi-purpose nature, with everything from extreme sports to football to live music able to be held at the venue.

“More excitement is building with less than two months to go until the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 with eight matches to be played at the stadium.”

Quotes attributable Suncorp Stadium General Manager Alan Graham

“With so many amazing events over the years it’s hard to choose favourites, although being part of eight Maroons series wins in a row is hard to go past.”

“In terms of international acts, some obvious highlights include the world-famous musicians, although having the likes of Liverpool, Leeds and Aston Villa certainly show what a versatile facility Suncorp Stadium is.”
