- Hutchinson Builders has completed construction of Redlands Satellite Hospital
- The facility is now expected to open in August
- In addition to the Minor Injury and Illness Clinic, the facility will include renal dialysis and chemotherapy treatment
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has joined Health Minister Shannon Fentiman and local MPs to tour the completed $43.8 million Redlands Satellite Hospital.
Hutchinson Builders has now completed construction, with work underway to equip and prepare the facility ahead of an official opening later this year.
The Redlands Satellite Hospital will include a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic that will be open seven days a week from 8am and will accept patients until 10pm (with health staff working until 11:30pm).
Appointments with Queensland Health clinicians will be available in consult and treatment rooms for services including neurology, cardiology, older persons care, wound care, musculoskeletal, allied health and mental health services.
The Redlands Satellite Hospital will have the capacity to deliver each week:
- walk-in care for up to 490 patients for minor injuries and illnesses
- 144 renal dialysis treatments
- 90 chemotherapy treatments
- 280 outpatient appointments.
The facility also boasts medical imaging and diagnostic services, including ultrasound, X-ray and pathology.
The Redlands Satellite Hospital will take pressure off emergency departments and major hospitals in the region and help meet the increasing demand for services we’re seeing in this growing community.
It will work in tandem with the multi-million-dollar expansions underway at Redlands hospital, including a 28-bed modular ward expansion and Stage 1 Major Hospital Expansion, delivering 37 extra beds and a new ICU.
A new multi-level car park at Redlands Hospital also opened recently, boosting capacity by more than 1000 car spaces.
The Satellite Hospitals Program is one part of the Palaszczuk Government’s record $23.6 billion healthcare investment, which is delivering more hospitals, more beds, more services and more frontline health workers.
Quotes attributable to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk:
“The Redlands Satellite Hospital will be a game changer for the region.
“Not only will the facility alleviate the pressure felt in the emergency department, but it will also become a safe space for local patients accessing renal dialysis and chemotherapy treatments.
“These Satellite Hospitals are exactly what our health heroes needs to keep pace with the increased demand for health services as Queensland grows.”
Quotes attributable to Minister Shannon Fentiman:
“This marks yet another significant milestone for the Satellite Hospital Program.
“The Minor Injury and Illness Clinic will offer free walk-in care for common, non-urgent conditions like simple fractures, infections and allergies, sprains, strains and burns. This service will take a lot of pressure off our busy emergency departments and major hospitals.
“Additionally, the Redlands Satellite Hospital will provide a range of convenient specialist services including chemotherapy and renal dialysis treatment.
“We already know there are more than 50 patients a year who access chemotherapy and renal dialysis services in the southern Moreton Bay region.
“Many, if not all, of these patients will be able to be treated at Redlands Satellite Hospital, rather than have to go to a major hospital.
“I thank Hutchinson Builders for delivering vital infrastructure that will enable us to provide tailored health services in the growing Redlands community.”
Quotes attributable to Redlands MP Kim Richards:
“Our new Satellite Hospital at Meissner Street in Redland Bay will make such a difference for our community.
“The purpose-built Satellite Hospital will allow locals to access healthcare right in the heart of our community rather than having to travel to major hospitals like the Redland Hospital or the Princess Alexandra Hospital.”
Quotes attributable to Capalaba MP Don Brown:
“The new Redlands Satellite Hospital is in addition to our capital investments at the Redland Hospital.
“All of this would be put at risk under the LNP, who sacked 926 health staff across the Metro South Health Service when they were last in office, including sacking 299 nurses.”
Quotes attributable to Springwood MP Mick de Brenni:
“The new jobs at the Redlands Satellite Hospital will build on the significant number of frontline health workers we’ve already hired since coming to government in 2015, including 51 more doctors and 204 more nurses and midwives at Redland Hospital.”
