  • The $48.5 million hospital was funded by the Palaszczuk Government’s progressive royalties regime.
  • The facility will include emergency department treatment spaces, improved medical imaging services, and a helipad to reduce reliance on ambulance services.
  • Construction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.

The Palaszczuk Government has announced Hutchinson Builders will construct the new Moranbah Hospital in the heart of Queensland's resources community.

Funding for the new $48.5 million hospital was provided by the Palaszczuk Government’s progressive royalties regime.

The project will replace the existing hospital and will deliver improved health services for communities in the Bowen Basin, while supporting more than 100 construction jobs.

The new facility will provide the community with 12 inpatient beds, ambulatory care, an emergency department, gymnasium and allied health, inpatient units and medical imaging.

It will increase the number of emergency department treatment spaces from six to ten, and will provide enhanced outpatient, allied health, community health, and community mental health spaces.

The community will also benefit from improved medical imaging services including a CT scanner as well as a helipad to reduce reliance on ambulance services and make inter-hospital transfers more efficient.

Integrating services within a single building will help bolster amenities and security for staff and patients through improved patient flow, an airlock entrance, and replicating the existing hospital’s rose garden and family room.
