  • $800,000 committed for further planning into upgrades.
  • Regular maintenance to ensure improved safety for all road users.

Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is ramping up planning for future upgrades to the Maroochy River Bridge on David Low Way, known locally as Bli Bli Bridge.

The iconic, two-lane bridge was built in 1959 and is an important road link for the community and industry.

Population growth in the area has resulted in increased traffic volumes and congestion.

Late last year, feedback was sought from the community about how they use the roads from Maroochydore to Peregian Springs, including David Low Way through Bli Bli.

Hundreds of responses were received, with key themes including safety, congestion and design solutions. These are now being used in a $800,000 project to guide planning activities.

While planning is underway, the department is carrying out regular maintenance on the bridge.

Quotes attributable to Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey:

“Bli Bli’s population is growing, and this brings congestion and the need to look at capacity increases.

“The Palaszczuk Government will be delivering almost $3.1 billion worth of road and transport infrastructure projects across the Sunshine Coast and surrounding areas over the next four years.

“Safety is our top priority, and the department has a rigorous maintenance program which includes regular inspections of Bli Bli Bridge.

“We also asked the community last year for their feedback on how they used roads in the area and will use that to inform planning for future upgrades.”
