Consultation on South Bank draft Master Plan extended

The consultation period on the Future South Bank Draft Master Plan has been extended, to allow the community as much time as possible to provide feedback.

Deputy Premier Steven Miles said it was important to allow everyone to have their say on the future of the precinct.

“South Bank is a place of enormous significance to Queensland and, as the ‘people’s place’, it’s important that the people are truly involved in its future,” Mr Miles said.

“We’ve already had terrific feedback on the draft Master Plan, so we have decided to extend the consultation period to the end of January next year.

“This will also allow the interim South Bank Corporation Board to review submissions.

“The Board will be in a position to consider the opportunities South Bank has to make, including an important contribution to the Olympics and Paralympics experience and create a lasting legacy for the city.

“The current Board’s term expires on 31 December 2022 and it will not be renewed.

“I’d like to take the opportunity to thank the Board for their outstanding work, particularly on creating a visionary Master Plan which sets the precinct up for the future.

“The smaller, interim Board will be made up of senior public servants and Brisbane City Council nominees and will be established from 1 January 2023 for a period of up to 12 months.

“The Government’s intention is to put a broader Board in place as soon as possible, including community and council representation.

“Stability in the short-term is also crucial, which is why the Queensland Government is re-appointing Under Treasurer Leon Allen as Chairperson of the interim Board.

“Director-General of the Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning, Mike Kaiser has also been re-appointed as a Board Member.

“Rachel Hunter, Director-General of the Department of Premier and Cabinet is a new appointment, and along with Mr Allen and Mr Kaiser, make up the three Queensland Government appointments to the Board for 2023.

“These are all highly experienced public servants, each with significant expertise in the areas of business, financial and community service, public sector and organisation management, stakeholder engagement and transition management.

“I have no doubt that South Bank will be in excellent hands until the broader Board is in place.”

Brisbane City Council is expected to shortly put forward its two nominated Board Members for 2023.
