Business Basics grants now open

The latest round of the Queensland Government’s popular Business Basics grants has opened today for registrations of interest with $5 million available to small businesses.

Minister for Employment and Small Business Di Farmer said the Business Basics grants will support business owners right across Queensland to develop their skills and adopt best practice.

“The Business Basics grants of $5000 have been very popular with Queensland small businesses and with $5 million available in this round, 1000 small business will benefit for this latest round,”Minister Farmer said.

“Due to the previous popularity of the Business Basics grants, we have made the application process easier this time to ensure all small businesses that are interested have an equal opportunity to apply.

“Grants will be awarded through a two-stage process starting with businesses registering their interest to apply by completing a simple, online form that collects basic business information.

“Businesses are not required to submit evidence at this stage, which is another way we are reducing the burden for small businesses.

“Then businesses will be selected by a ballot to complete the remaining application process, not all businesses will be selected to move to the next stage.

“While there has already been significant interest in the program already today, small businesses are reminded you can still register any time between now and 5 December.

“Whether you register your interest today or at 11.59pm on 5 December, you will have an equal and fair opportunity of being selected to apply,” she said.

Minister Farmer said the Queensland Government knows small business is critical to job creation and economic growth, particularly in regional Queensland. 

“It’s important we support small businesses so they can grow and thrive and these $5000 Business Basics grants are a great way to do that.

“The Business Basics grants are an investment in local small businesses; supporting them to improve the foundational skills that will help their day-to-day operations and set them up for future growth. 

“Small businesses can use the grants build basic capabilities, upgrade skills and adopt best-practice measures in the business.

“They can finance a range of range of projects such as website upgrades, cybersecurity, strategic marketing, training and coaching.

“This is just one initiative of the Queensland Government’s $39.1 million commitment over the next four years for small business grants and other support to help small businesses, whether they are just getting up and running, or are more established and are looking to pursue new opportunities,” she said. 

Registrations of interest are open until 11.59pm on Monday 5 December 2022, eligible businesses will then be invited to submit their funding application from 9am on Monday 12 December 2022and will have until Monday 23 January 2023 to apply.
