The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk
Assistant Minister to the Premier for Veterans’ Affairs, Trade and COVID Economic Recovery
Mr Bart Mellish
Thousands of current and ex-service personnel will have a stronger voice through the new Queensland Veterans’ Council.
On the eve of Remembrance Day, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Queensland Veterans’ Council would shine a light on Queensland’s veterans’ community and improve their access to Government.
“The Council will have direct access to my Government, to provide advice on matters affecting veterans throughout the State,” the Premier said.
“The members appointed to the Council bring a wealth of experience, either as veterans or other members of the veterans’ community.
“ They understand the needs of vets and the organisations that support them.”
The Veterans’ Council members are:
- Quentin Masson DSM (Chair)
- Lorraine Hatton OAM
- Miriam Dwyer
- Christopher Hamilton
- Robert Skoda
- Nicole Hayes.
The Council also includes two ex-officio members representing the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council.
The Assistant Minister to the Premier for Veterans’ Affairs Bart Mellish said the new statutory body would strengthen support for current and ex-service personnel.
“The Council will be at the heart of matters relating to our veterans and the ex-service organisations supporting them in the community,” Mr Mellish said.
“The Premier and I will be in regular contact with the Council and welcome the opportunity to receive advice and engage in discussions to enhance the lives and support of Queensland’s veterans.”
The Queensland Veterans’ Council is supported by the Veterans’ Reference Group, which will advise Council, consult with the veterans’ community, and help Council advise the Premier.
