Hervey Bay to benefit from record police budget

Planning for the new Hervey Bay Police station will begin this financial year reinforcing the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to community safety with a record $3 billion police budget.

The 2022-23 Queensland Budget, which featured a record $23.6 billion investment in health as the centrepiece, also delivered record spending in Police, Corrective Services and Fire and Emergency Services.

“Included was $100,000 in the police budget for planning for a new $14 million facility,’’ Minister for Police Mark Ryan said in Hervey Bay today.

“Hervey Bay is just one of the regions that will benefit from this government’s investment in new and upgraded facilities.

“The Palaszczuk Government’s record budget includes a further commitment to delivering 2025 extra police personnel over five years and a major investment pipeline of new and upgraded infrastructure and new high-tech equipment to support our world-class police.’’

Mr Tantari said a new police station was a big win for the Hervey Bay electorate.

“Since being elected 20 months ago, I have been pushing for this new station and it is great to get the ball rolling,’’ Mr Tantari said.

“This investment by the Palaszczuk Government recognises that Hervey Bay is a fast-growing regional city and that it is committed to regional Queensland.

“This is about community safety, building infrastructure, ensuring better services and securing good jobs for our future.’’

North Coast Region Assistant Commissioner Brian Connors said the replacement station would help meet the growing demand for policing services across the region.

“The Wide Bay region continues to grow in population and demand for policing services continues to rise,” Assistant Commissioner Connors said.

“With a growing police workforce, it is important that we have suitable accommodation facilities to carry out their duties, servicing the local community.

“The replacement facility will significantly enhance policing operations in Hervey Bay.”  

Queensland Police Union President Ian Leavers said it was appropriate for police to have modern facilities and equipment.

“Police Stations like Hervey Bay are a real hub for the community and we know locals take great pride in knowing the police who work around the clock providing assistance to them have a work place that suits their needs, is secure for both officers and people visiting the station. 

"Hervey Bay is a growing community and the investment from the government in redeveloping the police station will ensure police are working in a fit-for-purpose facility that has the ability to cater for future growth.”

The 2022-23 Queensland Budget also includes funding to progress new and upgraded facilities for the Water Police and the Fire and Rescue Service in Hervey Bay.
