Christmas cheer for Queensland community groups

Queensland’s Not-for-profits are set to celebrate Christmas with the Palaszczuk Government announcing the successful recipients of the latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

The Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman congratulated the 448 recipients who will share in almost $11 million under the latest round.

“We know these grants make such a difference to communities across the State,” Minister Fentiman said.

“These grants will be a welcome Christmas present to our community organisations who have worked so hard during another challenging year.

“Not-for profit community groups are the life blood of our state and the work they carry out is of great benefit to so many in Queensland.”

The Attorney-General said it was especially pleasing to see a number of grants go towards projects that support women’s health and women experiencing domestic and family violence.

“It’s great to see organisations like So Brave, Beyond DV, Gympie District and Women’s Health group and The Mater Foundation have received funding to support their incredible work in their communities,” she said.

“So Brave will use their funding to print breast awareness calendars and their “Letters of Love - to our New Breast Friends” book to raise breast awareness in the community and more importantly, to support women during their breast cancer journeys.

“Beyond DV and the Gympie District and Women’s Health group will use their grants to upgrade facilities and IT equipment in their respective organisations as they both deal with an increasing need to support women and families impacted by domestic and family violence situations.

“The Trustee for the Mater Foundation will provide essential medical equipment to the Mater Private Hospital in Redlands to aid in treating women who are suffering the severe symptoms and effects of endometriosis”

The Attorney-General also reminded organisations that next year will see the much-anticipated opening of applications for round 113 – the super round.

“The first-time inclusion of a super round will see grants of up to $100,000 up for grabs with applications for the round opening in January 2022.

“I’m excited to see which organisations take advantage of this great opportunity and the projects that they put forward to fund.”
