Queenslanders making the most of the People’s Day long weekend are being reminded to always check in when they go out.

Minister for the Digital Economy Leeanne Enoch said people enjoying the long weekend in the Brisbane area needed to continue using the Check In Qld app when they enter venues.

“Every time you enter a shopping centre, restaurant or other business make sure you quickly pull out your phone and check-in,” Ms Enoch said.

The app is extremely popular with Queensland businesses and patrons, with more than 220,000 businesses and locations registered and more than 625 million check-ins at these locations.

The app has been downloaded more than 4.9 million times and, since July, about 33 million check-ins have been recorded a week through the Check In Qld app.

“The app plays a critical role as part of our economic recovery plan from COVID-19.

“With the long weekend in Brisbane, many people will be checking out from their usual work, so I urge everyone to remember to check in.”

Minister Enoch said the app is a critical tool to keep Queenslanders safe and help contact tracers.

To make it even easier to check-in, the app also includes a “Quick Check In” button on the top right corner of the home screen.

“By using the Quick Check In button – which looks like a small clock – you can quickly check in again to your recent locations, without needing to scan the QR code displayed by the venue.

“This is another way we’re making it as easy as possible for people to check-in.

“Now is not the time to become complacent. With COVID on our doorstep we all need to remain vigilant as we keep up our vaccination rates.

“There are four ways we can all protect ourselves and our loved ones: use the app every time you enter a venue, get vaccinated, social distance, and wear a mask where needed under the current health directions.”

The Check In Qld app can be downloaded from Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
