South West HHS water system upgrade in the pipeline

Hutchinson Builders has been awarded the contract to improve health facility water supply systems throughout the South West over the coming months.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the $9 million project involves the installation of water filtration and treatment systems, as well as the replacement of aged water reticulation pipework and tapware across 11 health facilities.

The facilities receiving upgrades are:

• St George and Cunnamulla Hospitals;
• Augathella, Dirranbandi, Injune, Mitchell, Mungindi, Quilpie and Surat multipurpose health services; and
• Waroona and Westhaven residential aged care facilities (located at Charleville and Roma).

“Works are set to commence by November on the five highest priority sites in Cunnamulla, Waroona, Augathella, Quilpie, and Mitchell, with Cunnamulla Hospital to be the very first cab off the rank,” the Minister said.

“These sites have been given priority due to their history of water quality issues and the ongoing costs of monitoring and controlling their water quality.

“This is about ensuring the water supplied to all our health facilities is of the highest quality.”

Ms D’Ath said the water upgrade project in the South West was being funded by the Palaszczuk Government’s Priority Capital Works Program.

“The Priority Capital Works Program is designed to fund critical health infrastructure upgrades and lifecycle replacements to improve services across Queensland’s health facilities,” she said.

“We’re determined to maintain and improve health services, no matter where they’re located. We will keep working hard to ensure all our health facilities and services are up to date and fit for purpose wherever they are situated.’’
