New campaign encourages Queenslanders to get vaccinated

For the love of family, friends and time together, of brunches and long lunches, and travel and adventure – get the COVID-19 vaccine.

That’s the message that will be delivered to millions of people as part of a new campaign being delivered by the Palaszczuk Government to encourage more Queenslanders to get vaccinated.

The “for the love of” campaign has been developed to remind Queenslanders that getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is the best way to protect yourself so that we can get back to spending time with our loved ones, doing all the activities we love, and working to return to the way of life that we all love and enjoy.

“Queenslanders enjoy more freedoms than those in other states thanks to the way they responded to the pandemic,” said Deputy Premier Steven Miles.

“Vaccinating as many Queenslanders as possible is vital to preserving our way of life.

“As we get more vaccines from the Commonwealth, advertising is an important tool to get that message out there.

“This campaign will motivate even more people to do the right thing, come forward and get vaccinated.”

The campaign, which was filmed in locations across Queensland, including Ballandean, Toowoomba, Boonah, Brisbane, Cairns, Innisfail and Port Douglas will run across multiple channels including TV, radio, social media, online and digital posters from this Saturday, 25 September.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said she hoped the campaign would encourage people who may be on the fence about getting the COVID-19 vaccine to come forward and get vaccinated.

“We’ve already seen great uptake of the vaccine across the state, with more than 63 per cent of eligible Queenslanders aged 16 and over having received at least one dose of the vaccine, and more than 44 per cent are now fully vaccinated,” she said.

“But of course, we want to see as many people vaccinated as possible.

“We know there are some people who may be delaying getting the vaccine for a number of reasons - they may be cautious, sceptical or anxious about the vaccine.

“Through this campaign, we want to help encourage those people to access further information about the COVID-19 vaccine and get the facts so they can make an informed decision about vaccination.

“The COVID-19 vaccine is safe and is the best way to protect against severe illness from COVID-19. The Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines have all gone through trials and tests as they were developed and approved for use. No testing phase has been skipped.

“The Delta variant remains on our doorstep and we want as many Queenslanders aged 12 and over to get vaccinated as soon as possible.”

Anyone aged 12 and over is now eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine at any Queensland Health vaccination location and participating GPs.

The Moderna vaccine also just arrived in community pharmacies this week, and the AstraZeneca vaccine is available from participating GPs and pharmacies.

Ms D’Ath said vaccination was key to helping us get back to normal.

“Vaccination is a critical step in combating the virus and will help us work towards a pathway out of the pandemic,” she said.

“I know restrictions and border closures have been hard on everyone – and we want to return to the ways things were before the pandemic.

“We can’t live with restrictions forever – we want to make plans, spend time with all our family and friends across Australia and overseas, go on road trips and travel overseas.

“But we can’t do this unless people come forward to get vaccinated.”
