The Honourable Meaghan Scanlon

The Palaszczuk Government is calling on young people from communities across the state to help shape a more gender-equal future for all Queenslanders.

With consultation for a new women’s strategy now underway, Youth Affairs Minister Meaghan Scanlon said the views of young people were key to successfully addressing ongoing economic and social inequality faced by Queensland women.

“We want to hear the views, voices and opinions of young Queenslanders to inform the development of the new Queensland Women’s Strategy 2021-26,” Minister Scanlon said.

“The strategy is about ensuring the future economic security, safety and health of women and girls across the state.

“But this consultation isn’t just open to women and girls.

“I’m encouraging all young people in our state to have their say, so we can make sure their voices are heard and considered in the development in our next strategy.

“The Palaszczuk Government has a proud track record to support young women in Queensland.

“We implemented the state’s first women’s strategy, and we passed historic laws so that Queensland women can legally and safely access termination of pregnancy.

“We’re investing in the next generation of female business leaders with the Queensland Women Grant Program, and our investments in TAFE and education are providing women with the opportunity to gain new skills and meaningful employment across industries.

“We’re listening, so jump in, join the conversation and help us towards our vision of an equal future.”

Participants also have the chance to win one of four $50 vouchers to major retailers by completing the short survey before Friday 8 October 2021.
