Respected executive appointed as next Queensland Corrective Services Commissioner

A national search has found Queensland’s next Corrective Services Commissioner from within the agency’s own ranks.

Former Deputy Commissioner with the agency’s Community Corrections and Specialist Operations, Mr Paul Stewart, has been appointed as chief executive for the next three years.

“Mr Stewart has solid experience as a Deputy Commissioner at Queensland Corrective Services, and a broad extensive career with the Queensland Police Service, including 10 years as Assistant Commissioner,” the Premier said.

“Mr Stewart is a long standing and respected member of the police and corrections sector and will bring his exceptional experience and knowledge to the role."

The Premier has welcomed the appointment following a national search, and recommendations from the independent recruitment panel.

As part of the Government’s executive team Mr Stewart will lead a public service committed to providing the highest standard of impartial, evidence-based advice to the Minister for Corrective Services and the Government to deliver the best outcomes for Queenslanders.

Mr Paul Stewart

Mr Stewart is a highly respected senior executive with solid experience as a Deputy Commissioner at Queensland Corrective Services since 2018, and a broad, extensive career with the Queensland Police Service including 10 years as Assistant Commissioner.

He demonstrates a very strong commitment to the Queensland Corrective Services and the hardworking people within the organisation. He is known for his authentic leadership style and good governance that illustrates his ability to inspire staff through current and future challenges. 

His reputation as a consultative leader, and his existing relationships will enable stronger collaboration with Queensland Police Service and the courts – leading to better outcomes for all Queenslanders.

He holds a Master of Technology Management and Bachelor of Science from Griffith University, and has studied at the FBI National Academy.
