New appointments announced for Queensland Government corporations

A number of new appointments have been made to key Queensland Government-owned corporations, including CS Energy, Energy Queensland and Sunwater.

Treasurer and Minister for Investment Cameron Dick said the businesses play a vital role in Queensland’s economic recovery.

“As our state continues to tackle the impacts of COVID-19, it’s important we have the right people managing our government-owned corporations,” Mr Dick said.

“The new appointments we’re announcing today will ensure these businesses continue delivering for Queenslanders, and I thank all outgoing directors and board members for their steady hands during these challenging times.”

The new appointments include:

• Christina Sutherland (CS Energy, Director)
• Karen Lay-Brew (Energy Queensland, Director)
• Paul Lucas (Energy Queensland, Director)
• Owen Doogan (North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation, Board)
• Stuart Armitage (Sunwater, Director)

Dan Hunt has also been extended in his current role as director and chair of Sunwater following his appointment as interim chairperson in March.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the appointees would play a critical role in helping to deliver Queensland’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan.

“Queensland’s investment in infrastructure will drive economic growth, and those in the positions of managing our government owned corporations and state authorities have an important task ahead to help us navigate the challenges ahead,” Mr Bailey said.

“The latest round of appointees collectively share decades of experience serving Queenslanders at the highest levels in the corporate, community, government and public service sectors, so we welcome them and look forward to working with them.”

Minister for Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen Mick de Brenni said the appointments would continue to provide strong leadership in Queensland’s clean energy future.

“With the eyes of the world looking to Queensland as an energy superpower, it’s never been more important to have experienced leaders at the helm of our publicly-owned energy companies,” Mr de Brenni said.

“I congratulate the new board members on their appointments and thank outgoing members for their service to Queenslanders.”

Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing and Minister for Water Glenn Butcher welcomed the new appointments to Sunwater saying the appointees would provide important hands-on experience to the water service provider and complement the existing leadership at the organisation.

“When it comes to our regional economic recovery, it is critical we make the most of our existing water supply and assets for our agricultural, urban and industrial needs, as well as preparing for growth and development across our regions,” Mr Butcher said.

“I am pleased these new appointments can deliver on that responsibility, coming from a long history of high-quality administration in the sector, including in irrigation, cropping, and industrial water usage.”
