Health and human rights expert joins Metro North Hospital and Health Board

A health service co-founder who has an extensive background in human rights advocacy has been appointed to the Metro North Hospital and Health Board.

Nermina Komaric is the newest member of the 11-person board. Current members Dr Robert Franz and Dr Kim Forrester have been reappointed.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Yvette D’Ath said Ms Komaric had a strong record in leading organisations and representing community groups.

“I’d like to welcome her to the Metro North Hospital and Health Board,” Minister D’Ath said.

“Ms Komaric has an accomplished record in health, law and human rights advocacy. She co-founded the World Wellness Group 10 years ago to ensure people from all cultures had access to health and mental health services.

“She has held a range of positions with international human rights agencies, the International Anti-corruption Anti Trafficking in Human Beings Association in southeast Europe, the Women’s Centre for Prevention and Research of Sexual Violence in Croatia, and the Centre for Women’s War Victims in Croatia.

“We’re very fortunate to have such a dedicated professional on the Metro North Hospital and Health board.”

The 16 boards throughout Queensland are responsible under the Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011 for local performance of their health service and the delivery of public health services within their communities.
