Have your say on future of Queensland’s resources industry

Queenslanders can now have their say on the future of the state’s resources industry.

Minister for Resources Scott Stewart said submissions into the Queensland Resources Industry Development Plan had opened.

“The resources industry employs about 71,000 people and is an essential part of Queensland’s economic recovery,” Mr Stewart said.

“The Queensland Resources Industry Development Plan is about working with industry, the regions and communities to set a shared vision for the future of the sector.

“It’s important communities, businesses and stakeholders can have their input into the plan.”

Mr Stewart said as the world changes demand for new minerals like vanadium and cobalt would grow.

“It’s important to look at the emerging minerals market as part of this plan but also how we can capitalise on the existing strengths of Queensland’s resources industry too,” he said.

“As part of the development of the plan, soon we will be engaging with communities, resources companies and other stakeholders through formal sessions.

“The findings will form the basis of a draft plan that we will be releasing later this year.”

Mr Stewart said the resources sector had been a key part of Queensland’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 global pandemic and would continue to be in the future.

“The Queensland Resources Industry Development Plan will examine the challenges and opportunities the sector has for the sector into the future,” he said.
