Disaster recovery funding available for sporting clubs

Queensland sport and recreation clubs hit by extreme weather may be eligible for up to $5000 in disaster recovery assistance.

Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe this week opened the Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program.

“Not-for-profit sport and recreation clubs affected by Tropical Cyclone Niran or the March floods in Southern Queensland could be eligible for up to $5,000 to help with clean-up or equipment replacement costs,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“The Palaszczuk Government is keen to help clubs get back to the business of supporting their communities as quickly as possible.

“I’m encouraging community sporting and recreation club treasurers to go online and check their eligibility for assistance under the Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program.

“This emergency funding is available now to support clubs in need of a helping hand after Queensland’s recent natural disasters.”  

Eligible clubs affected by Tropical Cyclone Niran from 25 February to 3 March 2021 include those in these council areas:

  • Cairns Regional Council
  • Cassowary Coast Regional Council
  • Hinchinbrook Shire Council
  • Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council
  • Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire.

Southern Queensland clubs affected by extreme rainfall and flooding in late March are likely to be in these council areas:

  • Balonne Shire Council
  • Barcoo Shire Council
  • City of Gold Coast
  • Goondiwindi Regional Council
  • Lockyer Valley Regional Council
  • Logan City Council
  • Paroo Shire Council
  • Quilpie Shire Council
  • Scenic Rim Regional Council
  • Southern Downs Regional Council.
