Works for Queensland is working for Fraser Coast

New decking is being installed at five water-side locations across the Fraser Coast thanks to the Palaszczuk Government’s $200 million COVID Works for Queensland program.

Decking upgrades are underway at Scarness Jetty, Torquay Jetty, Urangan Pier, Burrum Boardwalk and WetSide Water Park.

Inspecting the works at Scarness Jetty, Deputy Premier and Minister for Local Government Steven Miles said the funding program was making a positive impact on the Fraser Coast community.

“Fraser Coast Regional Council received more than $9 million from the COVID Works for Queensland program last year, to get shovels in the ground, or in this case, new decking on the jetty,” Mr Miles said.

“The Works for Queensland program is helping create jobs for local businesses and local tradies and help them recover from the impacts of the pandemic.

“Throughout the State, the Works for Queensland program and the COVID Works for Queensland program have created or supported more than 22,750 jobs so far, with Queenslanders employed on more than 2,370 projects.”

Member for Hervey Bay Adrian Tantari said the new round of funding would support even more projects and jobs with $16.4 million allocated to the Fraser Coast.

“The region has received almost $65 million for community infrastructure projects through the job-creating Works for Queensland program that is benefitting people in the Fraser Coast region,” Mr Tantari said.

“Most importantly, these projects have helped to create or support more than 470 local jobs so far, having a positive effect on the regional economy.

“We’ve already seen Works for Queensland upgrade our piers and resurface our much used and loved rail trail, I’m excited to see what it delivers next.

“The Palaszczuk Government is putting Fraser Coast at the centre of Queensland’s economic recovery.” 

Fraser Coast Regional Mayor George Seymour thanked the Queensland Government for its support.

“Through projects such as the decking upgrades on our jetties and boardwalks, we are providing terrific economic and health benefits for the community,” Mayor Seymour said.

“The Works for Queensland funding in particular has allowed the council to deliver infrastructure sooner, which has had a far quicker impact on employment, tourism and liveability.

“This has been a successful partnership with the Queensland Government, and I am looking forward to the most recent allocation of funding making a difference for our community.”
