More than 1 million check-ins have been recorded across Queensland with the Palaszczuk Government’s new Check In Qld app.

Minister for Digital Economy Leeanne Enoch said more than 7600 Queensland businesses had registered for the app, and it had now been used to check in patrons more than 1 million times.

“This app, which was launched just over a fortnight ago, is a tool in Queensland’s path to economic recovery, and it’s making it easier for Queenslanders to visit restaurants, cafes, hairdressers, libraries, pubs and gyms,” she said.

“The secure, free and contactless Check In Qld app is a safe and simple way for customers and staff to record their contact details and help keep Queenslanders safe.

“It’s wonderful to see more businesses and Queenslanders using the app.

“I’ve been receiving positive feedback from business owners and patrons that it’s making check in processes quicker and easier for everyone.”

Ms Enoch said contact tracing is a vital part of our recovery from COVID-19 and the Check In Qld app helps hospitality venues and other businesses comply with public health directions.

“Contact details entered into the app are held securely and confidentially by Government for up to 56 days, and Queensland Health can access the data immediately if required for contact tracing purposes,” Minister Enoch said.

The Check In Qld app can be downloaded from Google Play or Apple App stores.

“For people using the app to check in, one of its benefits is that you only need to enter your details once,” Minister Enoch said.

“The app will then remember your details at participating businesses in future, including details of any dependents, making the check in process quicker and easier.

“Simply scan the venue’s Check In Qld QR code and once your information has loaded show your successful check-in screen to venue staff.”

Member for Mundingburra Les Walker said the app has been a great success in the local area.

“As of yesterday, there were over 285 business registrations for the Townsville area, and over 17,000 check ins,” Mr Walker said.

“Whether it’s the local coffee shop or gym the Check In Qld app just makes the necessary process a lot easier for businesses and customers alike.”

Coffee Dominion manager Julia Brandes said the experience with the app has been positive.

“The app is easy to download and set up,” Ms Brandes said.

Businesses and venues across the state are strongly encouraged to register to use the Check In Qld app online: https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au/check-in-qld

It is not mandatory to use the Check In Qld app, however all hospitality businesses must continue to collect and store contact details for staff and customers electronically.

Other electronic methods include online fillable forms, membership card scanners, online booking systems and a digital spreadsheet.
