Central Queensland’s regional councils will receive $24.52 million from the latest round of the Palaszczuk Government’s hugely successful Works for Queensland program as part of Queensland’s plan for economic recovery.

Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing, Minister for Water and Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said works for Queensland helps local governments deliver or maintain important community infrastructure projects that support local jobs.

“We have seen what a really positive impact the Works for Queensland program has had on communities throughout our regions,” Mr Butcher said.

“This further funding will help councils deliver roads and pathways, parks and playgrounds, all while creating local jobs

“Gladstone Regional Council has so far had 22 projects funded through Works for Queensland, delivering 350 jobs for locals including Bray Park Pump Track and Skate Park, upgrades to Tondoon Botanical Gardens, and the Harbour City BMX Club Facility.”

Member for Rockhampton Barry O’Rourke welcomed today’s announcement.

“This is great news for Rocky and for our region’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mr O’Rourke said.

“Another round of Works for Queensland will allow Rockhampton Regional Council to deliver more jobs and build or upgrade their council infrastructure.

“Rockhampton Regional Council alone will receive $9.46 million, building on the previous rounds which I know they’ve put to good use, such as a new Pump Track at Gracemere and a new reptile enclosure at Rockhampton Zoo.”

Assistant Minister for Education and Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga welcomed the funding for Livingstone Shire Council.

“This is fantastic news for Livingstone Shire, providing a much-needed injection into the council as part of Queensland’s plan for economic recovery,” Ms Lauga said.

“Livingstone will receive $3.5 million to upgrade facilities and create jobs for our region, we’ve already seen them use the funds to create jobs on projects the Emu Park Art Gallery, and countless upgrades to roads and parks across Livingstone.

“The Palaszczuk Government is investing in regional Queensland, with no corner of the State being left behind.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for Local Government Steven Miles announced the allocations for the fourth round of the Works for Queensland program.

“At the last election we committed to bringing back Works for Queensland for a fourth round and today we’re delivering on that commitment,” the Deputy Premier said.

“This is a $200 million pool that will be allocated to councils outside of Queensland’s South East, with the funding improving council infrastructure and delivering local jobs as part of Queensland’s plan for economic recovery.

“So far, Works for Queensland has created more than 21,000 jobs throughout regional Queensland, helping to drive economic recovery where it’s needed the most.”

Eligible projects range from roadworks to town beautification, parks and playground upgrades, renewable energy installations, tourism, water and safety.

Project submissions close on 9 April.
