JobTrainer program set to deliver more cheap training courses for Queenslanders

More Queensland job seekers are set to benefit from $200 million in JobTrainer funding to access free or low-cost training for high demand jobs.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk today revealed more than 21,000 Queenslanders had already enrolled in training courses under the joint State and Federal Government JobTrainer programs.

The Premier said JobTrainer would today be expanded to include 32 more courses.

“We want to ensure more Queenslanders have access to the training they need to get a great job,” the Premier said.

“That’s why we’re delivering free TAFE and apprenticeships for thousands of young Queenslanders and it’s also why we’re expanding the JobTrainer program today.

“Since the JobTrainer Fund was launched, there has been strong interest from Queenslanders wanting access to free and low-cost training.

“We’re focusing on industries where we know there is strong potential for jobs growth in the future.

“I want to see more young Queenslanders get a great start at life. Programs like this are absolutely vital to that aim.

“We’ll continue to invest in skills and training to enable more Queenslanders to find good, honest employment.”

Minister for Training and Skills Development Di Farmer said the most popular JobTrainer courses so far include adult tertiary preparation, individual support, early childhood education and care, cyber security, beauty services, electrotechnology, screen and media, business administration, education support and animal studies.

“The new courses include a range of certificates in areas such as bookkeeping, software development, beauty therapy, maritime operations and short courses in irrigation, mental health work and shipboard safety and clinical coding,” she said.

“These new priorities have been added based on the analysis of national skill needs by the National Skills Commission and local industry advice on employment opportunities, particularly in regional Queensland.

“Investing in skills is a key part of Queensland’s plan for economic recovery and the JobTrainer Fund is one way we are giving eligible Queenslanders the opportunity to get qualifications that lead to jobs.

“Importantly, the Palaszczuk Government has also extended our program to deliver free apprenticeships and free TAFE for Year 12 graduates, to provide fee free training to anyone under 25 – which will provide up to 37,000 Queenslanders with free training opportunities.

“The JobTrainer fund is supporting Queenslanders to launch or develop a career and is focused on job seekers affected by the pandemic who want to pursue new opportunities with better employment prospects.”

To qualify for the JobTrainer Fund students must enrol before September 2021 and complete their training by 30 June 2022.
