The Palaszczuk Government has awarded a $1.3 million grant to Envorinex Pty Ltd to build a new plastic recycling facility in Toowoomba.
Treasurer and Minister for Investment Cameron Dick visited the site of the new Environex plant at Wellcamp Airport near Toowoomba.
“This project will bring 30 new jobs to Toowoomba and keep nearly 8,000 tonnes of waste out of landfill each year,” the Treasurer said.
“Envorinex will use this grant to build a $3.9 million facility in Toowoomba and establish a plastic waste recovery, processing and remanufacturing operation in the region.
“As anyone who visits their local tip on the weekend can tell you, there are up to three times as many jobs in recycling and resource recovery as there are in landfill.
“As we work to Unite and Recover it’s important to invest in industries that will deliver significant benefits to our local communities.”
The facility will process rigid plastics from the agriculture, aquaculture, horticulture and industrial industries into plastic pellets to then be remanufactured and recycled.
Envorinex’s Managing Director and Co-founder Jenny Brown said the new facility will process plastic waste and use the raw materials to manufacture products that can be used both locally and within the state.
“Our main focus is to ensure that whatever products we manufacture that they can be returned and recycled again,” Ms Brown said.
The Treasurer said Envorinex is one of 29 companies to share in $34 million under the Resource Recovery Industry Development Program.
“These 29 projects will see 362 new jobs created and attract more than $193 million in capital investment. They will also divert 1.3 million tonnes of waste from landfill, 11 per cent of the 11.04 million tonnes of waste generated in 2018-19,” he said.
“The resource recovery industry directly contributes $830 million to the economy and these grants will help continue to grow the industry.
“This investment in these innovative companies is paving the way to a more sustainable future and creating jobs for Queenslanders.”
The Queensland Government’s Resource Recovery Industries 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan is positioning the state to reduce landfill and create a sustainable industry with long-term employment and economic benefits.
