Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Mark Bailey

Works on the $7 million Nicklin Way bus and bike upgrade at Minyama are complete.

The Palaszczuk Government earlier this year partnered with Sunshine Coast business GRC Civil to deliver the works, which included a southbound bus priority lane, on-road bike lanes and resurfacing, supporting jobs during construction.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the project is about getting buses, bike riders and the 56,000 drivers who use this road everyday home sooner and safer.

“Projects like this add to our record joint investment on the Sunshine Coast, like the $2.5 billion pipeline of Bruce Highway and rail works, plus the $57 million Bells Creek Arterial Road – an investment that’s creating busting congestion and creating jobs,” Mr Bailey said.

"The priority lanes will drivers, commuters and bike riders users travelling southbound to get through the Jessica Boulevard intersection quickly and safely.

"Importantly, it means drivers will no longer be slowed or stopped by buses picking up and dropping off passengers.

The new lane was created in the existing wide shoulder, while the on-road bike lanes are marked on the existing corridor from the Mooloolah River bridge crossing southbound to Koorin Drive, and northbound between Lutana Street and the Mooloolah River bridge crossing.

“Thanks to Queenslanders managing the health impacts of COVID-19, we’ve been able to get on with delivering record road and transport investments on the Sunshine Coast, and get on with creating those crucial jobs in industries like construction.

“Infrastructure like this has two benefits: tackling congestion in growing areas, but also creating a steady pipeline of more than 2,300 jobs as part of Queensland’s economic recovery plan.”
