Attorney-General and Minister for Justice
The Honourable Yvette D'Ath

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath has won an injunction to force the cancellation of a protest planned in Kangaroo Point this Saturday.

The Attorney-General was granted injunctive relief in the Queensland Supreme Court under the Attorney-General Act 1999.

“I welcome the Supreme Court’s decision to cancel the protest planned for this Saturday,” she said

“If the organisers are serious they should seek to proceed in a lawful way under the Peaceful Assembly Act and demonstrate it can be done in a COVID-safe way

“We support the right to peaceful protest but only if it can be done in a COVID-safe way that doesn’t put public safety at risk.”

The Supreme Court injunction orders the organisers not attend, or encourage others to attend, the planned sit-in protest on the Story Bridge or on Main St Kangaroo Point on 15 August 2020.

It also orders protest organisers to inform their followers on social media platforms that the protest has been cancelled.
