2020 Premier’s Anzac Prize recipients announced

Eight young Queenslanders have been chosen to join in the opportunity of a lifetime as part of the 2020 Premier’s Anzac Prize.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the successful students in grades 9-11 came from a range of state and non-state schools around the state.

“I’m delighted to announce the names of the students selected for the Premier’s Anzac Prize tour and I congratulate them on their inspiring entries,” the Premier said.

“This wonderful program has provided more than 100 Queensland high school students with a life-changing experience.

“It’s great to see students representing schools from all corners of the state including Cairns, Whitsunday, Buderim and Bribie Island.

“The 2019 group represented areas such as Noosa, the Gold Coast, Townsville, Bundaberg and the North Burnett.”

Education Minister Grace Grace said in January 2020 the students will attend a two-day research workshop at the State Library of Queensland before a 16-day tour overseas.

“Each student will select two service people and do a research project on their story; one from World War I and another from any timeframe where Australians have been involved in conflict or peacekeeping missions,” Ms Grace said.

“It will give students a deeper appreciation of these service men and women and offer the opportunity to follow in their footsteps in a more personal way.

“The group will embark on a tour in April, attending an Anzac Day dawn service at the Australian War Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux in France as well as other locations.”

The 2020 Premier’s Anzac Prize is presented in partnership with RSL Queensland, which is a major sponsor of the program for the next three years.
