Minister for Child Safety, Youth and Women and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence
The Honourable Di Farmer
Applications are now open for a share in $150,000 in grants for community organisations to host events during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month in May 2020.
Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Di Farmer said grants of up to $5,000 each were available for projects designed to raise awareness, encourage community participation, and support people affected by domestic and family violence.
“Every May, Queenslanders join together to say ‘not now, not ever’ to domestic and family violence in our community during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month,” she said.
“Everyone has a part to play in ending domestic and family violence, and these grants will go to supporting organisations in every corner of the sate to host events that bring the community together to say domestic and family violence is never acceptable, and that by working together we can bring about change.
“In 2020, we are looking forward to applications for projects that include a broad range of community members.”
While domestic and family violence affects every community, applications are especially encouraged that include and support:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities
- people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- people identify as LGBTIQ
- people with disability
- young people
- older people.
Ms Farmer said in 2018-19 there were 32 community organisations who received funding under the grants program, with events being held in every part of the state.
“Domestic and family violence is an issue that unfortunately affects far too many people, and that’s why we need everyone to play their part,” she said.
“All the events funded through these grants in 2019 meant all Queenslanders had an opportunity during DV month to reach out and get involved to help end domestic and family violence.
“I’m looking forward to seeing even more fantastic community events in 2020.”
Ms Farmer said successful applicants would receive grant funds by early 2020 to plan their awareness raising activities for delivery in May as part of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month 2020.
