Brisbane Registry is Queensland’s top wedding venue

The Brisbane Registry is Queensland’s top wedding venue, hosting 2,017 of the state’s 23,113 nuptials during 2018-19, as couples choose to say ‘I do’ in the room with the view.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Yvette D’Ath said it was the first time the Registry had conducted more than 2,000 weddings in a year.

“This represents almost nine percent of wedding ceremonies in the state,” she said.

The number of weddings at the Brisbane Registry has increased steadily across the three years since the opening of its Ann Street ceremony rooms – 1,618 in 2016-17 and 1,914 in 2017-18.

Mrs D’Ath said location, personalised service and affordability were the secrets of the Registry’s success.

“Thirty-two floors above the heart of the Brisbane CBD, our modern, beautifully designed ceremony rooms have panoramic views across Moreton Bay, the Glasshouse Mountains and Mt Coot-Tha,” she said.

“The Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages’ recent Showcase enabled the city’s wedding photographers to scope out the venue’s lighting, get a feel for stunning photo opportunities available and plan how to capture the perfect shots.”

Photographer David Wall described the Brisbane Registry as one of his “absolute favourite venues”.

“The incredible views from the ceremony rooms are unbeatable at any time of day, but especially at sunset,” he said.

“Even better, the ceremony rooms give you a comfortable, climate-controlled environment for couples at any time of year, and it’s fabulous not to need a “plan B” in the event of rain.”

Mrs D’Ath said couples could marry in affordable style in one of two ceremony rooms, which seat 30 and 70 guests respectively.

“The venue offers romantic lighting, a flower wall, generous guest waiting areas, private dressing rooms and an integrated sound system,” she said.

“The inner-city location enables couples and their guests to continue their celebrations in style at nearby world class restaurants, hotels and bars, and of course our beautiful Roma Street Parkland, Botanical Gardens and South Bank provide stunning backdrops as well.

“Due to popular demand, the Brisbane Registry now opens its doors every Thursday, 8.30-9.15am, for couples to meet our professional team of celebrants, tour the ceremony rooms, and take in the picturesque views.”

Wedding ceremonies and civil partnership declaration ceremonies are held Monday to Saturday (excluding Wednesday), with extended hours on Friday and Saturday for early evening ceremonies.

A registry ceremony costs between $350 during the week, $455 on Saturdays, and $600 for Friday and Saturday evening ceremonies.
