The heavy vehicle industry has shifted up a gear with the Palaszczuk Government, launching a dedicated jobs hub at the largest on-road transport event in the Southern Hemisphere. Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said the new jobs hub at the Brisbane Truck Show this week was a strong show of support for the heavy vehicle industry.
“This is the first time the Queensland Government has partnered with Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA) to support Australian Heavy Vehicle Week and the Brisbane Truck Show,” Mr Dick said. “It’s the largest business-to-business event in Queensland and brings in over $32 million to our economy over the four days, making it the perfect environment to launch a dedicated jobs hub that will help getting an advanced manufacturing or supply job in the heavy vehicle industry that much easier for Queenslanders.
“The new online portal is free to use and currently has jobs on offer from all over Queensland and beyond for people with various levels of experience, qualifications or those wanting to enter the heavy vehicle industry for the first time.
“We’re invested in creating job opportunities for all Queenslanders and this new job hub is making it easier for anyone of any skill set to explore job opportunities online and meet exhibitors and potential employers here at the Brisbane Truck Show to discuss opportunities.
“I congratulate the industry for its commitment to finding local Queenslanders’ jobs and the HVIA on establishing this great online portal,” he said.
HVIA Chief Executive Todd Hacking said this is an exciting opportunity to connect with the broader community around the strength of the heavy vehicle industry and the rewarding careers that are there for people with the right attitude.
"The Jobs Hub is connecting employers and job seekers right now with well over one hundred jobs already posted,” Mr Hacking said.
“The Brisbane Truck Show and jobs portal will remain active for the duration of the event and we hope to fill each and every one of those jobs by the end of the show.”
Minister Dick said this heavy vehicle industry support builds on the Queensland Government’s extensive Land 400 work where we won the $5.2 billion Phase 2 defence project that will generate more than 450 Queensland jobs.
“The Palaszcsuk Government are right behind Rheinmetall’s bid for the $15 billion LAND 400 Phase 3 project and are committed to building the momentum of Queensland heavy vehicle sector through our Queensland Defence Industries 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan,” he said.
The Brisbane Truck Show runs Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 May with more than 35,000 people expected through the doors over the four days.
Three-hundred exhibitors from right across Australia will be showcasing the new vehicles and technology powering the industry forward.
