Minister for Fire and Emergency Services
The Honourable Craig Crawford

Minister congratulates Commissioner for blazing a new trail as Queensland’s top law enforcer

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Minister Craig Crawford has congratulated QFES Commissioner Katarina Carroll on her appointment as the State’s top police officer.

“I’ve had the privilege and honour of working with the Commissioner for more than a year and there are many qualities that make her the best candidate for Queensland Police Commissioner,” he said.

“The Queensland Police Service will get someone who serves with experience, intelligence, humour, insight, passion, commitment and integrity.

“As always, under a Palaszczuk Government, the people of Queensland are getting the best person for the job.”

Mr Crawford was speaking after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced that Ms Carroll had received the nod for the State’s top police job.

“In the past few months alone, the Commissioner has led us through catastrophic bushfires; three cyclones (Debbie, Owen and Trevor); a severe monsoon trough and its subsequent flooding; and the widespread devastation that followed it across the western and northern regions of the state,” Mr Crawford said.

“There is not one Queenslander who has not been affected by these natural disasters and that means not one Queenslander has been unaffected by the leadership the Commissioner has shown.

“I want to thank her wholeheartedly for her outstanding service to Queensland Fire and Emergency Services for the past four and a half years.”

The Commissioner will take up her police appointment in July.
