Road widening to begin on Barcaldine-Aramac Road

Barcaldine work crews will roll out the bitumen when they start works next week on the Palaszczuk Government’s $2.09 million Barcaldine-Aramac Road upgrade.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said as an important link for the region’s residents and local cattle industry, the Palaszczuk Government would widen and seal a 6.5km stretch of Barcaldine-Aramac Road to improve safety and reduce travel times.

“As a major agriculture hub for Queensland, it’s important that we ensure the Barcaldine region’s roads are safe and reliable,” Minister Bailey said.

“Local work crews will widen an important stretch of the road to eight metres and install two additional overtaking opportunities.

“It’s a great example of state and local governments working together for the community, with Barcaldine Regional Council staff to deliver the road widening works.

Barcaldine Regional Council Mayor Rob Chandler said the works to widen the road would be welcomed by both local residents and the general public who use the road to travel to Muttaburra and Townsville.

“It will also provide valuable employment for the Barcaldine Regional Council work crews,” Mr Chandler said.

Roadworks will be conducted Monday to Friday between 6am and 6pm, with some weekend work possible.

Traffic control and speed restrictions will be in place during the works and I encourage all motorists to drive safely through the roadworks.

Works are expected to be completed September, weather permitting.
