Valentine’s Day weddings high above the city

LOVE will literally light up the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages on Valentine’s Day today.

A 1.2 metre-high LED light spelling out the word LOVE will provide a photogenic backdrop for the 15 couples who will marry at the registry in Brisbane.

That’s in addition to the panoramic views across Moreton Bay, Glasshouse Mountains and Mt Coot-tha from the 32nd floor of the Ann Street building occupied by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, where thousands of couples have taken their vows in the past two years.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath said the spectacular facilities were largely responsible for the registry enjoying its biggest year ever in 2018, with 2072 weddings taking place at the stunning two-year-old premises.

Along with the illuminated LOVE lights, which have been brought in especially for Valentine’s Day, couples have another great photo opportunity with the recently installed ‘Flower Wall’ in the second ceremony room.

The largest wedding on Valentine’s Day today has 60 guests attending in the larger of the ceremony rooms.

“The ceremony rooms are just lovely, couples have access to private dressing rooms and amazing photo locations, and there are world class restaurants, hotels and bars on the doorstep,” Mrs D’Ath said.

“I wish all the couples the very best for their special day today and for their future together.”
