Brace your Elf for roadworks this Christmas!

This festive season drivers are reminded to plan their journeys in advance to avoid unnecessary delays on Queensland roads.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey is urging Queenslanders to be prepared for the possibility of traffic inconveniences over the holidays.

“Road works can be responsible for major delays for drivers at this time of year, so I encourage families to research and plan their routes accordingly,” Mr Bailey said.

“We all know Christmas travel can be stressful, but it’s important for motorists to exercise patience.

“Road works can add to festive frustrations, but it’s crucial drivers slow down, obey posted speed limits, or plan alternative routes if necessary.”

Mr Bailey said there are a number of tools motorists can use to ease some of the pressure this holiday season.

“QLD Traffic is an online source for state-wide traffic information, including closures, restrictions, real-time incidents and hazards,” Mr Bailey said.

“The Queensland Government also provides road region maps, which display rest areas, road surfaces and travelling times for motorists.

“Drivers are also encouraged to check QLD Traffic social media accounts for real-time updates on conditions across their region.”

Major works to be undertaken on Queensland roads this season include:

M1/M3 Gateway merge project will remain at a reduced speed of 80 km/h through the site.
Mudgeeraba (Exit 79) to Varsity Lakes (Exit 85) work site, will remain at a reduced speed of 80 km/h through the work zone and 60km/h through the contraflow section of works.
Mount Lindesay Highway, between Allencreek Road and Gould Hill Road at Gleneagle, will have a reduced speed limit (note: region won’t know till Thu if limit 80km/h or 60km/h as depends on whether works finished)
Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road (Luscombe Crescent to Dunns Road) 60km/h speed limit
Ipswich Motorway, between Granard Road (Rocklea) and Oxley Road (Oxley), 80km/h speed limit
Gateway Motorway North Upgrade project, 80km/h speed limit
Logan Enhancement Project, 80km/h speed limit
Oakey-Miles Road, between Brigalow and Chinchilla, 80km/h speed limit
Dalby - Miles overtaking lane works (east of Warra and sites between Chinchilla and Miles), 80km/h speed limit
Drillham-Dulacca (under traffic control until Friday), 80km/h with two lanes each way.
Bruce Highway Upgrade, Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway, 80km/h speed limit
Bruce Highway overtaking lanes (Bundaberg region), north of Apple Tree Creek, 80km/h speed limit
Bruce Highway (Bororen to Tannum Sands safety project). Multiple sections between Bororen and Tannum Sands turnoff, 80km/h speed limit.
Gladstone-Benaraby Road, one section south of Gladstone, 60km/h speed limit.
Mackay Ring Road Project - Peak Downs Highway between Horse and Jockey Road and Sextons Road, 60km/h speed limit
Eton Range realignment project – Peak Downs Highway at Eton Range, reduced speed limits, as signed, of 60km/h and 40km/h
Flinders Highway, Townsville to Charters Towers, 80km/h speed limit through Mingela and Sellheim
Flinders Highway, Townsville to Charters Towers, 80km/h speed limit between Reid River and Cardington Road
Bruce Highway (Cairns Southern Access Corridor works), Kate Street to Aumuller Street, 60km/h speed limit
