New Townsville youth park delivered in time for Christmas break

Better sports and recreation facilities will be available for young people in the Townsville community in the lead up to Christmas.
 
Member for Townsville Scott Stewart today officially opened the new Townsville North Shore Youth Activation Hub with Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe and Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill.

Mr Stewart said the youth hub not only offered a terrific place where young people could engage in active recreation with friends, it was also part of wider program supporting jobs.
 
“The Palaszczuk Government invested $460,000 in this $2 million project through our very successful Works For Queensland program,” Mr Stewart said.

“This project alone supported a dozen jobs.
 
“Across the Townsville community, Works for Queensland is supporting 936 jobs with $45.1 million over two funding rounds.”
 
Mr Stewart said the Palaszczuk Government was keeping its election commitments.
 
“One year ago, we said we would continue to support councils and local communities with Works For Queensland and that’s what we’re doing,” he said.
 
“For the Townsville community, that means improved facilities and projects that support jobs.

“We will continue to support regional communities like Townsville.”
 
Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the NSYAH featured a range of sport facilities and activity play grounds for local young people.
 
“It has multi-sport courts for basketball, cricket, football and netball, it also has a DJ mixing table, skate boarding facilities and even a parkour area and a wall for legal street-art.
 
“I congratulate the Townsville Council for this innovative project.”
 
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said she was proud to open the North Shore Youth Hub with Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe. 

“This was one of the commitments I gave before the election to build a skatepark and youth hub in the Northern Suburbs,” Cr Hill said.
 
“My team of Councillors is totally committed to building first-class infrastructure right throughout our suburbs and I think this is going to be very popular with local families. 

“The Northern Beaches has been one of the fastest growing areas in Townsville and Council is committed to investing in building better communities for local families.”
 
The Palaszczuk Government’s $600 million Works for Queensland 2017-21 program is supporting over 12,000 jobs in regional towns and cities boosting employment and helping councils build critical infrastructure.
