QPS initiatives recognised at Premier’s Awards for Excellence

Minister for Police, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP and Commissioner Ian Stewart have congratulated the Queensland Police Service (QPS) projects nominated as finalists at the Premier's Awards for Excellence including two projects that won in their categories and one that was Highly Commended for the overall Premier’s Award.

The Premier’s Awards for Excellence acknowledges the exemplary work by individuals and teams across the Queensland public sector, and recognises the outstanding initiatives being developed and delivered for the benefit of all Queenslanders.

The QPS was announced as finalists in the following categories;

• Customer Focus

• Commonwealth Games Group – Business Support
• Speak Up, Be Strong, Be Heard

• Innovation

• Digital Telecommunications Investigation
• Hold the Red – Traffic control system (TMR/QPS)

• Leadership

• It Gets Better – Supporting LGBTI staff in the QPS and community
• Mani Tribes Gallery
• Police Command Project

• Performance
• Commonwealth Games Group (QPS/PSBA),
• GC2018 Transport Coordination Centre (TMR/QPS)
• Task Force Orion.

Minister Ryan said that he was proud the work of the LGBTI network, for the It Gets Better video, had been recognised as Highly Commended for the overall Premier’s Award after it had won in its category of Leadership.

“These awards acknowledge the outstanding efforts made by officers and identify those who go above and beyond to improve the service offered by the QPS,” Minister Ryan said.

“The diversity of the projects and programs that had been nominated reflect the strength of the organisation.”

Commissioner Stewart recognised the achievement of the Commonwealth Games Group (QPS/PSBA) which was a joint winner in the Performance category.

“It is fitting that the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Department of Transport and Main Roads and the Public Safety Business Agency were also recognised as joint winners in the Performance category.

“Positive working relationships with other agencies and members of the community encourage action during challenging times and for major events. I would like to acknowledge the external parties who have supported development or assisted in the delivery of services,” Commissioner Stewart said. 

“Finally, I’d like to acknowledge those projects that were Highly Commended and those that were named as finalists. The QPS is continually striving to provide the best possible police service to all members of the community by adopting new technologies and improving practices to meet our strategic objectives.”
