Minister for Communities and Minister for Disability Services and Seniors
The Honourable Coralee O'Rourke
Statement from Minister Coralee O'Rourke
Every week another 343 women in Australia are diagnosed with breast cancer. Last week I learned I am one of them.
Over the next few weeks, I will take some time off to spend with my family and work with my medical team to undergo treatment and recover from surgery.
After that, I plan to face this challenge like most other Queensland women with breast cancer do - by continuing to get on with my work, which I love. I know I am incredibly fortunate to do this with the unwavering support of my colleagues, particularly the Premier and Deputy Premier who I thank for their kindness over the past week.
My diagnosis comes during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I hope it serves as a reminder to all Queensland women to remain vigilant regarding their health and get regular scans.
